The Moorland proudly presents author Anthony Browne as one of our participating authors this fall. Anthony has written and illustrated over 40 children’s books after debuting in 1976 with Through the Magic Mirror. His most well known children’s book is probably Gorilla, written around the period when Anthony was badly bitten by a gorilla whilst being filmed for television at his local zoo. Anthony studied graphic design and worked as a medical artist and greeting card designer before turning to children’s books.
Anthony has received the Kate Greenaway medal twice, and the Kurt Maschler ‘Emil’ three times in his career. In 2000, he was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, the highest honor a children’s writer or illustrator can win. His books have been translated into 26 languages and his illustrations have been exhibited all over the world. From 2009 to 2011 Anthony was the Children’s Laureate in Britain.
