Aleksandra Mizielińska and Daniel Mizieliński (both born in 1982) are graphic designers and book authors from Poland. They are graduates of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, founders of Hipopotam Studio.
Partners in life and in art, the illustrators are associated with the revolution in the Polish children’s book market. Their bold style derives from comics and caricature, and their specialty is encyclopaedic books for children – exhaustive compendia of knowledge (in architecture, geography and art) in visually attractive forms. Their books, such as H.O.U.S.E., What Will Become of You?, the ‘Welcome to Mamoko’ series, Maps, and Under Earth, Under Water, were published in over thirty countries.
The title Maps – an international bestseller – was sold in a combined total of over 3,000,000 copies all around the world. In the book you can find the answers to questions like “Which languages are used in India?”, “Which wild animals live in Russia?”, “What is the national dish of Germany?” and “What is Poland called in Polish?”, and many, many more!
The duo has received numerous awards and distinctions for their book and Internet designs, including the prestigious international BolognaRagazzi Award (2010), the French Prix Sorcières (2013) and the Italian Premio Andersen (2013). Daniel lectures at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts.
