Högni Sigurþórsson (1970) is an educated artist and has been working mostly with theatre and graphic design since he graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Arts and Crafts School in 1998. He works both two-dimensionally and three-dimensionally as he moves between different media and plays around with mixed techniques. Högni is especially interested in using masks, dolls and transforming objects into something else.
Högni’s scenography work has been primarily for children’s plays at The National Theater in Reykjavík. He worked with Litli prinsinn, Fíasól, Kuggur og leikhúsvélin, and Umhverfis jörðina á 80 dögum, among others. He is now doing the scenography for Þitt eigið leikrit (“Your own play”) by Ævar Þór Benediktsson, which premieres in January 2019.
Alongside with working in the theatre, Högni has designed book covers, album covers, as well as illustrated a few books and brochures. He was nominated for the Reykjavík Children’s Book Prize 2018 for the book Kvæðið um Krummaling (“The Poem about little Raven”). The book consists of poetry by Aðalsteinn Ásberg Sigurðsson and illustrations by Högni, and it is the first book he publishes under his own name.
