Ármann Jakobsson


Ármann Jakobsson is a professor of Medieval Icelandic Literature at the University of Iceland. He has published the novels Fréttir frá mínu landi (2008), Vonarstræti (2008), Glæsir (2011), Brotamynd (2017) and Útlagamorðin (2018).
In 2014, his first children’s book came out, called Síðasti
galdrameistarinn (“The last wizard”), with illustrations by Bergrún Íris Sævarsdóttir. Síðasti galdrameistarinn is an adventure story for which Ármann found inspiration in the inexhaustible treasure of medieval Nordic literature. The book was nominated for the Icelandic Literature
Prize in the category children’s books in 2014.
Ármann has also written several non-fiction books. Í leit að konungi (1997), Staður í nýjum heimi (2002), Tolkien og Hringurinn (2003), Illa fenginn mjöður (2009), Nine Saga Studies (2013), A Sense of Belonging (2014), Íslendingaþættir: saga hugmyndar (2014) and The Troll Inside You (2017). In addition, he has edited both anthologies and academic publications, among which Morkinskinnu on behalf of the Icelandic National Archives (2011) and The Routledge Research Companion to the Medieval Icelandic Sagas (2017).
