Hólmfríður Ólafsdóttir

Hólmfríður Ólafsdóttir works as Event and Communication Manager at the Reykjavik City Library. She is responsible for various events and directs many of the big family events within the library including Culture Night and Vetrarhátíð. Before joining the City Library she worked at Gerðuberg Culture House where she was managed events for children and families. Hólmfríður has been part of projects aimed to promote reading and worked together with both schools and the City Library.
She took part in planning Sögur – verðlaunahátíð barnanna (Stories – Children’s Awards) which took place in Harpa last April. At this huge event, similar to Kids’ Choice awards, Icelandic children aged 6-12 had the opportunity to award everything they liked best. There were awards for music, theatre, television and last but not least literature. Creative projects by children were awarded and IBBY in Iceland presented their honour award, Sögusteinn.
The main purpose with these awards were to promote children’s culture, reading and creativity.
In connection with the event, videos about creative writing were made for TV, four writing contests took place, the KrakkaRÚV Book Panel was established, eight short films by kids were produced by professionals, an e-book with short stories was published by Menntamálastofnun and this year, two plays by kids will be put on stage by the Reykjavík City Theatre.  
Sögur – verðlaunahátíð barnanna was broadcasted live on national television (RÚV). Main sponsors are Sögur – samtök um barnamenningu with KrakkaRúv, Barnamenningarhátíð (Children’s Culture Festival), Reykjavík City library, Reykjavík City Theatre, IBBY Iceland, Síung, Ministry of Culture and Education, Miðstöð skólaþróunar at the University of Iceland, Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature, Harpa Music Hall and Conference Center and Skóla og frístundasvið.
Hólmfríður is one of the speakers at the conference on 12 October.
