Nick White

Nick White is an Artist, Illustrator and Senior Lecturer on the Illustration Animation BA at Kingston School of art. Nick has exhibited work in Galleries in London, Liverpool, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bastia, Húsavík and Hveragerði. As an Illustrator, he has worked for a variety of clients, including – The Victoria & Albert Museum, Random House, Bloomberg Businessweek, Nobrow, The New York Times and the L.A Times, ELCAF and the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration. In 2017 Tate Publishing published the Children’s activity book ‘Meet the Artist: Alberto Giacometti’ Which introduces young artists to the world of Alberto Giacometti through a variety of fun drawing and making activities. His most recent body of work is concerned with imaginary abstract water parks but also line, shape, and form. Play, and the rules or limitations connected to play, is key to his work. Play as a way of exploring how the repetition of shapes and forms change, morph and evolve with the different media used. Play as a way to explore humour and character, text and image. Nick says, ‘My work manifests itself through multiple outputs due to my ever-decreasing attention span, these include – painting, collage, ceramics, drawing, print, books, self-published zines, workshops and occasionally songs to name a few.’

With White’s view on the playful parts of art and design, he will give a masterclass on writing for children and lecture a waterslide workshop.

Nick White er listamaður, myndhöfundur og kennari í myndlýsingu og teiknimyndagerð við Kingston Listaháskólann. Hann hefur sýnt verk sín í galleríum í London, Liverpool, Amsterdam, Antwerpen, Bastía, Húsavík og í Hveragerði. Sem myndhöfundur hefur hann unnið fyrir fjölda útgefendur, stofnanir og tímarit, eins og Viktoríu og Albert safnið, Random House, Bloomberg Business Week, The New York Times, L.A. Times, ELCAF og Quentin Blake miðstöðina. Árið 2017 gaf hann út barnabók um Alberto Giacometti hjá Tate útgáfunni. Bókin kynnir ungum lesendum töfraheim listamannsins með fjölda mynda og verkefna. Í dag vinnur hann helst verkefni sem byggja á ímynduðum og óhlutbundnum rennibrautagörðum, þar sem hann veltir fyrir sér línum, lögun og formum. Leikur og takmarkanir eru lykilatriði í verkum hans. Leikur sem rannsókn á endurtekningu og hvernig lögun og form breytast, mótast og þróast með ólíkum miðlum. Leikur sem rannsókn á húmor og karakter, texta og mynd. Nick segir, “verk mín verða til í gegnum ólíka kanala vegna þeirrar litlu einbeitingu sem ég hef og verið sífellt minni, þetta á við um málverk, klippimyndir, keramik, teikning, prent, bækur, zines, smiðjur og einstaka lög, til að nefna nokkur dæmi.” 

Nick mun veita gestum Mýrarinnar innsýn í gáskafullar vinnuaðferðir sínar í myndlist og hönnun með því að bjóða upp á masterclass í skrifum fyrir börn og halda smiðju í vatnsrennibrautagerð.
